The numbers tell the story. Between November 2025 and March 2026, the airport welcomed 3.1 million passengers through its doors, including a 22% jump in international visitors compared to the same period last year. The world is returning to this beautiful corner of the globe.
Whether you need a pre-flight coffee or a proper sit-down meal, the terminal revamp has you covered. Ten new eating and drinking outlets have opened, alongside a refreshed retail experience and upgraded amenities throughout. There is more choice at every turn.
One of the most practical upgrades is something most passengers will never notice, and that is exactly the point. The airport has introduced LiDAR technology, which uses sensors to monitor passenger flow in real time and eliminate congestion before it builds. The result is a smoother journey through the terminal without the usual bottlenecks. More visible is the expanded flight screen network, which makes navigating to your gate far more intuitive and frees up more time to relax before boarding.
The final piece of the revamp is now open: an Antarctic-themed children’s play area. As the gateway to the frozen continent, with around 100 flights heading south each year, Christchurch Airport celebrates that unique connection while giving families a fun space to burn off energy before boarding.
More is still to come. Additional digital upgrades are on the way, and a brand-new bar and eatery are taking shape in the international departures area.
